Chateau Mouton Rothschild, which has had a tradition of commissioning a different artist each year to design its wine label over more than seven decades since the end of the Second World War, has commissioned German artist Gerhard Richter to illustrate the label for its 2015 vintage. Richter, who was born in 1932, bases his work on the relationship between painting and photography, representation and abstraction and has produced a design called Flux using enamel paint on plexiglass. The label is historic in that it marks the first year that the bottle has signed by Philippe Sereys de Rothschild, son of Baronne Philippine de Rothschild and grandson of Baron Philippe, who built up the reputation of the estate and campaigned successfully for its promotion to first growth status. Sereys de Rothschild is Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA, and has signed the label on behalf of his siblings Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild, who is Vice-Chairman, and Camille Sereys de Rothschild.
