The Liv-ex 1000 Fine Wine Index finished 2016 at a record high, boosted both by the rebound in Bordeaux and also a strong performance by Burgundy. The Bordeaux wine market started to recover after a five-year slide from the 2011 bull market peak, boosted by the slump in sterling following the U.K.'s June Brexit vote, which made sterling-denominated contracts on Liv-ex more attractive to euro- and dollar-based buyers. At the same time the Burgundy 150 Index was the strongest performer of the year in the broader Liv-ex 1000, according to data from Liv-ex in its Cellar Watch market report.
